Allyn Wayne Kaste
Sep 1, 2017A diagnosis of brain cancer became a defining moment in a life filled with many such moments. His courage, humility and grace in facing his illness brought his family together to walk his final journey with him.Allyn was born in Lincoln Township of Buffalo County, Wis. to Alfred and Elizabeth (Gobar) Kaste Jan. 28, 1928. After the untimely death of his mother when he was 15, Allyn’s life changed dramatically. Already a pilot at age 16, he committed to the Navy at age 17. He was accepted into flight training school and served proudly as a Navy Aviator for five years.He married Lois Borgwardt on Dec. 10, 1949, and they began their life story. In 1952, to pursue Allyn’s dream of growing apples, they took a leap of faith and purchased an abandoned orchard in Galesville. It was there that Kaste’s Morningside Orchards was born. This is also where they began raising their six children, thousands of chickens and countless memories for the next 50 years.Allyn was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Galesville. He served on the church council, was a deacon, taught Sunday school, attended bible studies and cared for the flowers for many years. He was an active member of several fruit growing associations, the Experimental Aircraft Association and was the creator of Galesville’s 10 foot apple pie. Allyn built three planes, and provided hundreds of rides to family and friends in them, including 210 Young Eagles. He attended the EAA Oshkosh Airshow for 40 consecutive years. He had the honor of displaying his homemade Hatz biplane there and he was the local EAA chapter president for several years.He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Steven (Karen), Beth (Chuck), Jan, Amy, Julie (Darryl); 14 beloved grandchildren; 21 precious great-grandchildren; Diane Kaste-Defries and Katherine Kaste.He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Elizabeth; a son, David; son-in-law, David Eitrheim; and a brother, Wally.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 24, at Zion Lutheran Church, Galesville with Vicar Paul Sa...
